Young surf lifesaver selected for Queensland squad
AFTER a very strong 2025 surf life saving campaign young Port Douglas athlete Elise Wright has been selected to be a part of the Queensland surf lifesaving squad.

She has had a dominant season competing in an abundance of competitions throughout the year coming away with a variety of awards from each tournament
Miss Wright, 11, won age champion at the Cairns carnival, and at the branch carnival in Port Douglas, to go along with her previous seven medals at the North Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
“I’m very happy with my achievements so far,” she said.
All this silverware definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed as it has now landed her a selection in the North Queensland state team again.
Miss Wright and her surf team will be competing at the Youth State Championships in the Sunshine Coast in February 2026.
With this competition very quickly approaching, she doesn’t get much down time with training starting very soon.
Training will be held in Cairns where all the young athletes will be pushed to their limits as they prepare themselves both mentally and physically.
The NQ state team trains in Cairns multiple times a week, giving four young Douglas athletes plenty to do while they wait for their much-anticipated carnival.
All the local competitions are finished for 2025.
