They require people with a passion for wildlife rehabilitation and care.

The role is ideally suited to locals who will be in Douglas Shire for minimum of six months and have a passion for native wildlife, protecting ecosystems, contributing to environmental sustainability and doing something that benefits wildlife and themselves.

Wildlife care is specialised and there is learning involved for anyone wanting to help and has some spare time on their hands. TARC is looking for a weekly commitment, with a minimum of one shift per week or set number of shifts per month, for anyone 18 years and over that feels they can help out during the coming storm season and beyond.

“Volunteering isn’t just about giving back – it’s about learning new skills, meeting amazing like-minded people and protecting the wildlife that makes our world special,” said Wildlife Habitat general manager Clare Hunt.

“Your spare time can save lives,” she said.

Volunteers would support daily operations of the care centre with feeding, medications, cleaning, laundry and food preparation.

As an ‘ambassador volunteer’ people will learn hands-on animal care skills and gain experience in wildlife rehabilitation.

Send an email to volunteers@wildlifehabitat.com.au for more information on the role.
