The theme of the special occasion last month was labelled as ‘The Clash’ and clash they certainly did, with bright colours, bold patterns and wildly-mismatched styles which brought about some chaos and creativity to an otherwise normal school day.

Students were both entertained and bewildered as they watched their teachers and other staff members embrace the fun, showing off their creativity and willingness to come together to have a laugh.

“The colourful event was originally conceived during the staff Christmas party of 2024 when we were all together at the Mossman Bowls Club, on our second drink and reminiscing fondly about the highlights of the school year,” said senior teacher Amanda Coutts.

“A couple events that we agreed were standouts, included the whole school Halloween dress-up day and the staff flashmob performance at the final assembly,” she said.

“Our group, now affectionately self-named ‘The A Block Angels’, was all smiles as we recalled the great costumes, makeup and dance moves and how those events created a warm, fun vibe, so, in that moment, we decided that we needed to make more of that happen in 2025.”

After some brainstorming it was decided that school staff would lead one dress-up day per term, where they would encourage everyone to dress-up on a Monday, so they could all see each other united in style, for the purpose of comradery.

“Even though we looked mad, we still fulfilled our professional responsibilities,” Ms Coutts said.

“It’s easy to get weighed down by the negatives of any workplace. Instead of focusing on the flaws of the system, we like to make the best out of what we have and the best thing about Mossman school is the people –the staff and students,” she said.

“The day was a celebration of humour, spirit and, most of all, Mossman pride.”
