Time to frock up for dinner
PREPARATIONS for a ‘fundraising gala’ night to raise money to subsidise 550 high school students with a host of activities are underway.
The Mossman State High School P & C Association is organising the event on Saturday, September 13.
Locals are being encouraged to ‘frock up’ with tickets now on sale.
“We need you to be proactive, gather some friends, book a table and polish up those dancing shoes, as every ticket sale counts” said P&C president Phoebe Kitto.
Apart from a gourmet roast dinner, the evening’s entertainment will include live music, dancing and a special guest performance by the hilarious hypnotist-comedian act Andy Venning.
There will also be door and raffle prizes on the night.
“This adult-only event is not just about having a good time, it’s about making a real difference,” Ms Kitto said.
“As a remote school, the costs for our students to participate in sporting, cultural and academic events are significantly higher than in other regions,” she said.
Ms Kitto said the evening was also about coming together as a community.
“Our high school is a vital hub in our town and this event will be a wonderful chance to catch up with old friends, make new connections and continue building a vibrant, supportive school community that we can all be proud of,” she said.
The ultimate aim is to raise as much money as possible to support the 550 students by subsidising bus travel costs for camps and excursions, support students with their various levels of representation such as sporting or musical pathways, supply uniforms and other goods to families in need, support curriculum incentives and programs, plus events such as presentation day by sponsoring prizes and medallions.
So far, $8000 of sponsorship has been generated for the gala night, which will cover the expenses of the school band Moss Vegas, the comedy hypnotist, plus catering deposits and the other usual expenses with putting on a function.
Organisers have also gained donations such as meal vouchers, accommodation vouchers and spa treatments, with prizes ranging from $50 up to $900.
The event is at the school’s indoor sports centre from 5pm on September 13.
