Students do school proud at state titles
A RECORD number of athletes have represented the Peninsula region with outstanding results in Townsville.

In the heat of Townsville from 16-19 October, seven Mossman State High School athletes proudly represented Peninsula at the Queensland State Secondary Schools Championships, marking the school’s largest contingent at the event.
They were Ezi Masi-Lansana, Dallas Shepherdson, Dylan Saunders, Brody Collinson, Sophie Hamilton, Zamirah Wild and Caitlyn Butland, described as dedicated and hard working, both on and off the field.
Despite an untimely injury, Caitlyn Butland made an invaluable contribution as a student official, volunteering alongside officials from North Queensland and Brisbane. Her leadership and commitment exemplified the spirit of Mossman SHS.
The team delivered exceptional performances, with Brody Collinson crowned state champion in the 14 years boys’ javelin after a powerful gold medal throw – a remarkable highlight for Mossman.
Each Mossman SHS athlete demonstrated tremendous perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the championships – proudly flying the flag for the school and community.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our students’ effort, attitude and achievements,” said principal Katherine Macfarlane.
“They represented Mossman with heart and determination at every event.
“Congratulations to our Peninsula representatives – you’ve inspired our school and shown that hard work, passion and persistence truly pay off.”
