Step into Clink’s spotlights

LOCALS are being encouraged to step into the spotlight at the Douglas Theatre Arts Group (DTAG) – not as performers, but as passionate volunteers who make every production possible.

From greeting guests at the door, running lights or assisting backstage, DTAG offers a wide range of volunteer roles for people of all ages, skill levels and interests.

“We’re not just looking for theatre buffs,” said DTAG chairman Michael Kerr.

“We need ushers, bar staff, costume helpers, set builders, ticketing assistants and more. If you’ve got a few hours and a love for community, we’ve got a role for you,” he said.

DTAG, which encompasses the Clink Theatre, has recently launched its new online volunteer portal, so it is now easier than ever to get involved.

The portal allows DTAG members to browse upcoming opportunities, see which shifts are available and apply directly online. It’s a modern solution to an age-old tradition: community members coming together to create something extraordinary.

“Volunteers are the backbone of DTAG’s productions, contributing to everything from rehearsals and tech runs, to opening night logistics and post-show pack-downs,” Mr Kerr said.

Roles required include:

  • Front-of-house and bar crew – Welcoming guests, serving drinks and creating a warm theatre experience

  • Backstage support – Managing props, costumes and scene changes during performances

  • Technical crew – Assisting with lighting, sound and AV equipment

  • Set and costume assistants – Helping with design, construction, repairs and storage

  • Ticketing and box office – Supporting online and in-person ticket sales

  • Cleaning and venue setup – Ensuring the space is safe, tidy and ready for action.

All volunteers must be members of the association for insurance and governance purposes. Membership is open to everyone and can be completed online in just a few minutes.

“This is a chance to be part of something bigger,” said Mr Kerr.

“You’ll learn new skills, meet great people and help bring live theatre to life in the Douglas Shire,” he said.

Whether you’re retired, studying or just looking to give back – we’d love to have you.”
