Solar program praised

THE Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has given a glowing review of the Queensland Government’s new ‘supercharged solar for renters program’, which offers benefits to both renters and property owners across the Sunshine state.

The program, which will provide rebates of up to $3500 to lessors for installing rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on rental properties, aims to reduce the rising electricity bills that renters face and improve the energy efficiency of rental properties.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the initiative was a win for both tenants and lessors – renters will benefit from lower electricity costs, while lessors can take advantage of the rebate to enhance their property.

“We welcome the supercharged solar for renters program, which will provide much-needed cost-of-living relief to renters while also incentivising improvements to the energy efficiency of Queensland’s rental stock,” she said.

“This program provides an essential opportunity for renters who otherwise wouldn’t have access to solar power and the associated benefits of reduced electricity bills.”

Ms Mercorella said with growing environmental consciousness, more buyers and renters were prioritising greener homes.
