“The award is for the DAB artist who has challenged themselves and continued to explore new ways of expressing their creativity,” said DAB gallery manager Mandy Ryan.

“Jayne commenced her DAB journey doing glass work and has been experimenting with flow art techniques for a number of years,” she said.

“This year, Jayne joined DAB’s sketching group and also started botanical painting.”

Ms Lagarde said she was delighted to receive the certificate and prizes.

“I’ve been a member of DAB for about six or seven years and have participated in several different forms of activities put on by DAB from glass work, mosaics, painting and pottery, as well as volunteering on the desk,” she said.

“Next year I’ll be teaching a class in flow art which is one of the forms of painting that I learnt at DAB and have been practicing since 2021.

“For me, that’s what it’s all about, being involved in a wonderful community-run organisation.”

Douglas Arts Studio Gallery is a not-for-profit community arts centre, which is aimed at teaching, promoting and encouraging the artistic development, appreciation and personal expression of people living in the Douglas Shire. It is commonly known as DAB, short for Douglas Arts Base, which was the original name.

DAB has 208 members and 38 are participating in the current exhibition, with some showing their work for the first time.

The exhibition includes paintings (acrylic and water-colour), drawings, pottery, glasswork, mixed media, fibre art and mosaics.

“The only criteria we ask for this exhibition is that the artwork has to have been created this year. This has resulted in an eclectic mix of artwork across all the mediums that DAB both supports and offers classes in and as always, a wide variety of subject matters,” Ms Ryan said.

The final day of the exhibition is on Saturday 20 December.
