The A grade Sharks have seen a very mixed season to date, winning some huge games but also losing some tight ones.

As the season progressed the Sharks were able to grind out some wins giving them some momentum and hope which led to a late season finals push and finding them finishing fourth on the ladder and playing off in the semi-final against the fifth place Ivanhoe Knights.

The Sharks finished their 2025 campaign fourth on the Cairns District Rugby League ladder with 23 points, only two points clear of the fifth-placed Knights.

Their record finished with nine wins and six losses, but majority of those wins came along in the second half of the season.

In the final two rounds the A grade Sharks started off with a bye then their final game against the Mareeba Gladiators which was a must win if they wanted to play finals.

With their season on the line, the Sharks put together a masterclass performance and ran away with a very commanding 44-28 victory punching their ticket to the 2025 postseason.

Sharks’ fullback Charles Baira led the way scoring three tries. The Sharks also tallied five other try scorers giving the team plenty of confidence heading into the finals.

The Sharks now prepare for their must win semi-finals match against Ivanhoes.

The Sharks have only matched up once this year with Ivanhoes where they lost 42-20, but the coaches and players aren’t worried about previous results.

“Finals footy is a whole new season. We’ve competed with the top teams all year so at our best we can challenge anyone in the league,” a club spokesman said.

Every game going forward is a must-win for the Sharks, so they’re taking every matchup one week at a time, but remain hopeful that they can go all the way.
