Seniors invited for a chat and coffee
DOUGLAS Shire seniors are being urged to catch up for coffee and have a chat so they don’t miss out on socialising

The Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre (PDNC) is doing its best to keep seniors involved with their ‘senior adventures’ monthly outings but are hampered by budget and transport limitations.
So the centre is inviting seniors to a catch up over a coffee.
“Our monthly adventures are proving super popular, however we are limited in the number of people who can attend due to budget and transport limitations,” said PDNC community development worker Chrissy Gilewicz.
“We are trying to create opportunities for our seniors to meet between adventures and have held two ‘coffee catchups’ so far, which have both proved to be a great opportunity to get together for a chat,” she said.
“Initially the coffee catchups will be monthly with PDNC picking up the tab. We hope, if it proves popular, that we might invest in a coffee machine for our balcony and set up a regular weekly timeslot for anyone on our seniors adventures list, to drop in for a coffee and a chat.
“We would love to take everyone on our adventures every month, but of course, that is not possible,” Ms Gilewicz said.
“Rest assured, we will continue working on ways to ensure fairness so that all our seniors get to enjoy these heavily subsidised activities,” she said.
