The small Douglas Shire school earned its place in the ‘starting strong’ (early years to year 2) category for its exceptional work with children from kindy to year 2.

Wonga Beach’s connected early years pathway supports children from playgroup and KindyLinQ through prep and all the way to year 6.

Principal Anita Cubit said state-delivered kindergarten, early learning programs and classroom teaching work together under one community-led vision, gave children a seamless and supportive start.

“The school’s focus on strong relationships, high-quality teaching and early support has led to improved transitions, rising achievement and attendance above the state average,” she said.

Ms Cubit said the award reflected the collective effort behind the school’s early years success.

“This recognition belongs to our whole community. When families, staff and children grow together from the beginning, learning really comes alive,” she said.
