Safety of our kids in focus
ORGANISATIONS that can offer services for the safety of children are being invited to take part in Child Protection Week.

The week is very much part of this year’s calendar of events with Mossman Youth Centre hosting a community afternoon at George Davis Park, Mossman, on Friday September 12, in recognition of the national event.
They are inviting organisations to be part of the day, enabling them to provide information on the services that they offer.
Organisers believe that by bringing these local services together and raising awareness of child protection, it will assist families and young people, promote safe and supportive environments, plus celebrate the strength in the local community.
Mossman Youth Centre youth development coordinator Brody Andrews said the centre was seeking interest from community groups who would like to participate by hosting a stall, providing an activity or simply being present to engage with attendees.
“The message behind Child Protection Week is obviously really serious, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t come together and be positive,” he said.
“It’s all about strengthening our community and what better way to do that than by having a bit of fun?
“We want families and children to know that support is all around them and this is a great, visible way to show it.
“We’re just so excited to see George Davis Park full of families having a great time.
“There’ll be something for everyone, whether it’s the high-energy stuff like the bungee run and Zorb soccer, or getting creative with the arts and crafts.
“We’ve locked in some details for the event and already there’ll be a bungee run and gladiator inflatable challenge games, Zorb soccer for the older teens and adults. We’ll have OzTag running too, plus an arts and crafts station.
“Just come down, grab a free sausage, have a look around and enjoy a great community day out.”
The event will provide a free community barbecue plus other food vendors will be selling food and drinks.
Local services will be running some activities of their own and have their stalls set up so people can have a chat and see what support is available in town.
The event at George Davis Park on Friday September 12 will run from 3pm to 6pm.
