Rugby league storms on to FNQ playing fields
RUGBY league stormed on to the field across the Far North with some huge match-ups in all three grades.

Round two of the Cairns District Rugby League season has now been and gone with some huge clashes in all three grades.
In the A-grade men’s, the round started with Cairns Brothers taking the 18-10 victory against Innisfail, Tully beat Mossman in a close hard-fought game 32-28, while premiership hopefuls Atherton Roosters took down Yarrabah 36-24.
Cairns Kangaroos comfortably won their game against Ivanhoes 42-12 while Mareeba closed out the round with a 30-16 win over Southern Suburbs.
In the reserves games, Innisfail won a nailbiter, taking down Cairns Brothers 18-16. Tully handled Mossman with a 44-10 trouncing, while Atherton completed the double winning 20-16 over Yarrabah.
Ivanhoes and Southern Suburbs had very different results to their A-grade squads with Ivanhoes beating the Kangaroos 28-6, while Southern Suburbs shut out Mareeba winning 22-0.
The round wrapped up with the women’s games. Innisfail and Atherton both had big wins, with Innisfail beating Mossman 42-0 while Atherton beat Yarrabah 52-10.
The Kangaroos and Ivanhoes didn’t disappoint in their game with a 18-16 victory going to the Kangaroos.
AFL and rugby union
Both AFL Cairns and FNQ Rugby are now hitting their final preparations before their fast approaching season launch.
The AFL cairns season begins on good Friday with the much anticipated clash between Port Douglas and North Cairns. While the FNQ rugby season doesn’t begin until Saturday 18 April.
