Revealing ‘A Private Life’
‘A PRIVATE Life’, one of France’s biggest box-office successes of 2025, will be a star attraction at the Cairns French Film Festival next month.

The festival returns from 8-10 May, bringing a weekend of French cinema to local audiences.
The Alliance Française de Cairns has announced that the three-day event will be held at Event Cinema Cairns Central, featuring eight films, including the opening-night screening of A Private Life, one of France’s biggest box-office successes of 2025.
Directed by Rebecca Zlotowski, the drama crime thriller stars Jodie Foster and Daniel Auteuil and will open the festival on Friday 8 May from 7pm.
The festival offers a selection of films not being released for general viewing in the region, with organisers highlighting its growing popularity in Cairns.
Last year’s event attracted more than 1600 attendees across sell-out sessions.
The Alliance Française de Cairns said the festival has become a major annual event and is part of the city’s cultural landscape, bringing together audiences interested in French cinema.
The Cairns event forms part of a nationwide French Film Festival held across Australia and organised by the Alliance Française in capital cities and regional centres.
Collectively, it is now the largest French Film Festival outside of France.
Organisers said the program includes “crowd-pleasing, award-winning box office successes” designed to appeal to a broad audience. All films will be screened with English subtitles.
Opening night will feature a pre-screening event with a glass of bubbles and French-themed hors d’oeuvres.
The three-day program will also include raffles and French-themed menus provided by restaurant partners.
Other films are ‘Summer Beats’, ‘The Richest Woman in the World’, ‘Enzo’, ‘Colours of Time’, ‘Couture’, ‘Six Days in Spring’ and ‘Case 137’
