Return of Oktoberfest a roaring success

FROM competitive keg rolling and nail-hammering to a few expected sore heads the next morning, Kurrimine Beach showed the rest of the Cassowary Coast exactly how to throw an authentic Bavarian-style knees-up last weekend.

The return of the Kurrimine Beach Oktoberfest brought the seaside township alive with laughter, live music, and traditional German dancing.

Local fairgoers embraced the spirit, dusting off their dirndls and lederhosen to test their skills in classic festival games.

The festival made a triumphant comeback after a brief hiatus, with community enthusiasm driving a strong turnout. Kurrimine Beach Progress Association president and key event organiser Michael Acheson said the event was a resounding success across the board.

“We had a lot of people come, a lot of people enjoyed, a lot of people participated,” Mr Acheson told The Observer.

“All the way round, very, very good. Good events, well received, no complaints at all – everyone had a great time.”

Mr Acheson noted that the pause between events hadn’t dampened local appetite in the slightest, with plenty of familiar faces making their return. “Believe it or not, I saw quite a few people in the crowd that had our 2021 Oktoberfest T-shirt on that we sold back then, so you know it was people returning,” he said.
