Reef Raiders’ season ends, while Heat basketballers hit the road
IT’S been a huge fortnight of local Douglas Shire sport with all sports coming to the pointy end of the season.

The Crocs and Sharks A grade teams and the Crocs women’s have both booked their finals ticket, while the reserve grade teams have also had some big games.
The Reef Raiders A grade and reserve teams have seen the end of their season while the Port Douglas Heat Basketball Club’s local young guns have played in some hard-fought scrimmages against Cairns’ basketball rep sides.
The Reef Raiders A grade side’s season came to an unfortunate end after a crushing 71-7 defeat to the JCU Mariners.
The Raiders made a late finals push after stringing a few wins together but due to some poor form earlier in the season they were unable to find themselves playing finals’ footy.
Even though this season finished in disappointing fashion, the Raiders are looking to put it behind them and use it as motivation going into next year’s preseason training and season.
The reserve grade side, after a very strong inaugural season, unfortunately lost their elimination final to the Cairns Penrhyn Sharks 22-14.
Likewise to the A grade team, the reserves look to build off this loss and create a very strong 2026 campaign.
The Mossman Sharks reserve grade finished their season with a win beating the Mareeba Gladiators 36-24.
Even though the reserves missed out on finals they were happy to finish with a win and take that into the offseason.
The U19s Sharks season also came to an end after 34-18 loss to Mareeba.
The Crocs reserves have put two straight wins together with a 144-23 win against Cairns City and a 75-61 win against the Cutters.
The Douglas Heat juniors made the road trip over the weekend to Cairns Basketball to play some of the rep teams in friendly scrimmages.
The Port Douglas U14s girls played the U12s boys, where the boys came away with a comfortable 98-57 win, while the U12s Port boys lost to the U12s division 3 Cairns boys 66-17.
The Heat now make the road trip to Atherton to play in a regional competition next weekend.
