Pythons under-15 Queensland champions
THE Cairns Pythons under-15 gold team have won gold at the senior state age championships in Townsville.

They won 16 of 17 games with coach Kym McPhee saying she was so proud.
“Nothing more satisfying than seeing players achieve success after they put in all the hard work,” she said.
Cairns Netball program lead Kelly Hynes said “it was an outstanding achievement given the depth and quality of competition and all other teams competing strongly in their divisions”.
Cairns Netball sent five representative teams to the senior state age championships compete, two in the under-15s, two under-16s and one under-18.
The competition featured 183 teams from 53 associations across Queensland.
Over 1600 matches were played, involving more than 2000 athletes, along with coaches, managers and umpires, highlighting the scale and quality of the event.
Ms Hynes said this year marked “a significant evolution of the Cairns program, with myself leading a revamp of the athlete and coach development framework”. “The focus has been on building a high-performance environment that equips athletes with the tools to succeed not just on the court, but across all aspects of their development,” she said.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated athletes, coaches, managers and umpires contributing to the program and we’re excited about what lies ahead.”
Cairns Netball will now take seven teams to the Junior State Age Championships in the Hinterland in July, including a junior boys’ team and U12, U13 and U14 divisions another exciting step in the continued growth of the program.
