Podcaster on to a winner
A NEW Cairns-based free sports podcast, Winners R Grinners, has launched on the locally-based TPM Podcast Network, bringing Far North Queensland voices into the national sports conversation.
Recorded and produced in Cairns, Winners R Grinners features long-form discussion across Cricket, NRL, AFL and other major sports, with a relaxed, conversational format focused on honest opinion and debate.
The debut episode runs for just over an hour and covers a range of current sporting talking points, reflecting the podcast’s aim to appeal to fans who follow more than one code. Rather than short highlight-style commentary, the show adopts a radio-style approach, allowing time to unpack results, form and the stories behind the headlines.
Creator and co-host Daran Murphy said the podcast was designed to feel like everyday sports talk between friends.
Mr Murphy said the idea was born out of a shared passion for sport and informal discussion.
“We are all absolutely passionate about sport,” he said.
Mr Murphy is joined each week by Dave “Tinners” Carrol, Barry “Baz” Koch, with Trennt “Trenno” Cooper and Callum “Mad Dog” Kohi joining by phone.
The podcast is hosted on the newly launched TPM Podcast Network, which aims to support locally produced content and provide a platform for regional voices.
Mr Murphy said the show would cover a broad range of sports as the seasons progress.
