Plaudits for best footballers
EDGE Hill United Football Club has brought its 2026 season to a close in style, hosting its annual awards evening to celebrate the achievements of players, coaches and volunteers who contributed to another successful year for the club.
The evening was filled with excitement and recognition as the club acknowledged outstanding individual performances across its senior and youth teams, while also paying tribute to the dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes.
Among the night’s major honours were the players’ player of the year awards, recognising those who earned the respect and admiration of their teammates throughout the season.
Recipients included Vlas Krasnoff (U16/18), Jamie Morriss (division two men), Luke Scothern (U23 men), Gerry Medina (premier league men), Jo Wheatley (premier league women), Zara Burton (U23 women) and Sean Colrin (division one men).
The player of the year awards also recognised exceptional individual contributions, with Samson Clarkson (U16/18 men), Niklas Tann (division two men), Kai Palka (U23 men), Paige Morris (U23 women), Gerry Medina (premier league men), Anina Peresson (premier league women) and Felice Barabino (division one men) receiving honours.
The club’s emerging talent was also celebrated, with Yasmin Wyld Hill claiming the women’s premier league young player of the year award, while Jimmy McDonough received the men’s honour.
Away from the playing field, John Crothers was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the club, receiving the prestigious 2026 volunteer of the year award.
Edge Hill’s senior committee highlighted the importance of recognising those whose dedication makes community football possible.
“The night was a great way to show our gratitude to the people who keep our club running, without the countless hours of work and dedication we wouldn’t have a club and we can’t thank them enough,” the committee said.
With another season completed, the awards evening provided a fitting opportunity to reflect on the club’s achievements and celebrate the people who make Edge Hill such an important part of the local football community.
Attention now turns towards 2027, with the club hoping to build on another memorable season.
