The Lazy Lizard Motor Inn has taken home the top award in the 3-3.5 star accommodation category at the prestigious Queensland Tourism Awards 2025, cementing its reputation as one of the most beloved motels in the state.

Owner-operators Aidan Mulcahy and Alex Scott said their property was known for its spotless rooms, peaceful surrounds and famously warm hospitality. “The Lazy Lizard was recognised for delivering consistently exceptional guest experiences – without the fuss. Just good old-fashioned comfort, quiet and care,” they said.

“We’re incredibly proud of this win. It’s a huge honour not just for our team, but for Port Douglas.

“We might be a small motel, but we punch well above our weight.

“We’re absolutely chuffed. This award is a big deal for a small place like ours, it’s recognition that the little things matter.

“Spotless rooms, quiet nights, friendly chats at check-in – that’s the Lazy Lizard way.

“Every decision we make –from solar panels to smart water meters – is about creating the kind of place we’d want to stay ourselves. Clean, comfortable, friendly, honest.

“Winning gold is like a gold leaf in our palm tree – a real feather in the cap for our hardworking team, our loyal guests and the Port Douglas community who back small, independent motels like ours.

“If you’ve stayed with us lately, this win is yours too.”

With this award, The Lazy Lizard will now represent Queensland at the Australian Tourism Awards in Perth in March 2026.
