Noah Bridge nightly works

OVERNIGHT repair works to Noah Creek Bridge will begin next month, restoring the bridge’s original 16-tonne load rating following damage sustained during Cyclone Jasper.

The bridge has been operating under an eight-tonne load limit, significantly impacting residents, tour operators, delivery services and emergency vehicles.

To minimise disruption, remedial works will occur overnight (6.30pm to 6am) for 10 days, from 13-22 October.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the roadworks would have greatest impact on those people travelling to and departing Cape Tribulation.

“For residents heading home or visitors staying in Cape Tribulation, it’s important to plan ahead,” she said.

“Vehicles will need to reach Noah Creek before 6.30pm to travel north, and if heading south, they’ll need to wait until 6am.

“(The) council will do everything we can to keep the bridge open during the day, but like most projects of this scale, there’s always a chance that unexpected issues could arise. If access needs to change, we’ll make sure our community is updated as quickly as possible.”

Emergency access will be provided at all times through the existing temporary crossing. The council has secured Queensland Reconstruction Authority funding for the project.
