Nightly highway delays
MORE delays at night can be expected on the Captain Cook Highway between Port Douglas and Cairns from next week as extensive nightworks begin.

Starting Monday, parts of the Captain Cook Highway will be restricted between 6pm and 6am while workers repair damaged sections of the road.
Dozens of sections required repair following Cyclone Jasper in 2023 when extensive flooding caused more than 100 landslips and dislodging a huge boulder near Rex Lookout.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is urging motorists to plan ahead and expect additional delays of up to half an hour.
Nightworks will not take place over the weekend, with extra delays stopping from Saturday at 6am.
Since 2024, about a third of damaged sites have been repaired, with workers now prioritising work at sections between Ellis Beach and Yule Point.
Between Ellis Beach and South Wangetti, 11 geotechnical sites have been repaired, with slope stabilising, concrete pours and earthworks still to come.
Near Turtle Beach, 18 sites have been repaired to date within the 2km stretch. Ongoing works included slope stabilisation, resurfacing works and guardrails being reinstated.
