Muddies hit Bandits for six
WITH the cool weather exiting the Far North, and the heat and humidity finding its way back, that means cricket season is just around the corner.

The Port Douglas Muddies have wasted no time getting their 2025 campaign under way, starting off their season in style.
For the 2025/26 season Muddies have entered two teams in the senior men’s competition, having teams in both the third and fourth grade competitions, while also looking to fill junior teams.
With the season being very fresh Muddies are still finding their form and shaking off a bit of rust.
The fourth-grade boys have started off a bit slow with an 0-2 record, but with both games being close losses, and the season being as young as it is, the playing group and coaches are yet to start ringing any alarm bells.
The fourth graders now eye down their next two opponents when they make the road trip up to Atherton then return home against Barron River, hoping to even their record at 2-2.
Third-grade Muddies have had a brilliant start to the year, winning their season opener against the Mareeba Bandits comfortably.
Although it’s been a rocky start to the year with two games being postponed or cancelled, the boys are still in high spirits as they look to return to the Far North’s champions list.
Muddies veteran Andy Fenwick led the way, scoring an efficient 31 runs off 63 balls in a low scoring affair between the teams.
Muddies rolled the bandits for 72 runs with Adrian Bannerman leading the way, taking three wickets, while Zackeriah Faulkner, Andy Fenwick and Doug Barnes each finished with two wickets.
Muddies currently sit fifth with two games in hand, but look to chip away at the season one game at a time and try keep the winning streak alive for as long as possible.
