Cairns District Rugby League was founded in 1918 and our very own Mossman Sharks were formed and entered in 1955, starting off with a singular men’s team.

Since 1955, just like the region, the Mossman Sharks have expanded and grown well beyond recognition of their inaugural year.

The Sharks have formed a rich history of success-winning premierships in the 1990s and winning back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.

With the success came more interest and the Sharks were able to form a very strong and reliable junior base feeding directly into their development and senior squad.

The Sharks have seen teams from under-6 level, where their focus is purely on fundamentals and finding the passion of the game, all the way up to U19s level where there’s NRL hopefuls looking to make that next leap into the professional side.

The growth of the club, isn’t only seen in the juniors, as the senior competitions have also seen large amounts of growth.

The Sharks have been gifted enough to be able to enter a division one and two men’s squads and recently have also seen a team entered into the women’s competition.

The Sharks are an important team for all of the region, often merging with smaller clubs like Cooktown and White Rock, giving the players from small clubs a chance to shine and compete still.

Being a community-based club, the Sharks are represented at most events and find themselves constantly at schools and other events recruiting young players and pushing them through the club’s pathways to give all players their best chance at success.

The Sharks always welcome new players and volunteers around the club as their growth continues.
