The event is intended to highlight the importance of men’s health, wellbeing and positive role models in our community.

International Men’s Day is celebrated in over 80 countries worldwide and Mossman is now part of the movement, celebrating it for the first time in 2025.

In Australia, International Men’s Day is regarded as a great opportunity to take part in a global conversation about manhood. It addresses masculinity and men's issues by highlighting some of the social issues that men and boys face, thus making a difference our communities. The day celebrates men and boys for their diversity, while having some fun in the process.

“It’s an event for everyone, men, women, families, and community groups,” said Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator Belinda Fischer.

“The day will feature bare foot bowls, guest speakers, entertainment, and opportunities to connect with friends, family, and local services,” she said.

The day will also have a serious side by highlighting some of the key social issues that men and boys around the World face. In Australia, these ‘men's issues’ include the fact that three out of four suicides are men, two out of three violent deaths are men, men die 6 years younger than women on average, boys underperform girls at every stage of education and dads who want to be more involved in their children's lives face a range of barriers.

“Join us at Club Mossman for a day of inspiration, connection, and celebration,” Ms Fischer said

Entry is $20 per person, which includes barefoot bowls, lunch and a welcome drink on arrival.

This can be paid at the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre reception or the Nic Nak Shed.
