Spinal Life Australia will host a ‘come and try’ inclusive lagoon day from 10am-2pm to showcase how public spaces and recreational activities can be made accessible and to encourage community involvement.

The event will feature key accessible infrastructure at the Lagoon precinct, including a changing places facility and a water wheelchair, alongside a program of supported activities in and out of the water.

The initiative has been developed through a collaboration between Spinal Life Australia, CQUniversity, Surf Life Saving Queensland, Independent Living Specialists and local community groups.

Organisers say the event aims to raise awareness of accessible infrastructure, encourage greater participation in community activities and highlight services available for people living with disabilities.

Attending will be Margaret McDonald, regional manager at Spinal Life, James Czencz, CQUniversity lecturer in neuro physiotherapy and Surf Life Saving Queensland volunteer, and those with lived experience.
