FOR 40 years Beau Gentry Menswear has been serving locals and tourists in the heart of Port Douglas.

Owner Phil Dobbs said their original motto created more than 45 years ago – ‘Look your very best … with our very best’ – still stood today.

Beau Gentry Menswear originally was created under the Tom Brown’s menswear group in Brisbane well over 50 years ago.

“In those days they were selling wide-bottomed trousers and coats with bright satin linings,” Mr Dobbs said.

He said the store moved to Noosa Fair Shopping Centre in the mid-70s, successfully selling top men’s clothing brands for many years.

Mr Dobbs said it then moved with new owners to Hastings St, Noosa, expanding to Mooloolaba and Port Douglas, importing European brands such as Paul and Shark from Italy, Meyer from Germany and many more.

“As the current owners progressed, shops sold and they moved to Port Douglas,” he said.

“Over 40 years later, Beau Gentry Port Douglas remains with the original owners, celebrating 23 years at the same store in Macrossan St, behind the iconic Courthouse Hotel.

“We welcome back each year many visitors and welcome new ones.

“Most of all we attract locals with our unique product ideal for the tropics.”

Mr Dobbs said the store changed with the times but was still stocking top European brands like Hugo Boss, The SurfCar from Spain, Coast Australia, Brax from Germany – all with exclusive shirts, shorts, tees, trousers, swimwear and exclusive men’s gift lines.

“Yes, we still have a wonderful array of Paul and Shark and Meyer continuing with years of association.

“Recent additions are an area for larger size garments, modern designs and colours. There is no reason for not looking your best, everybody is different.

“We have plenty of younger styles with fitted shirts and shorts that are great for the tropics.

“Fine French linens in short and long sleeve shirts are from $129, bamboo and cotton mix shirts galore all under $95.

“Our shirt range also includes fine Swiss 100% cotton shirts, lightweight to complement the ultra-lite Brax cotton shorts in a bevy of colours. Trousers also feature ultra-lite cotton, fine lightweight in great colours.

“Customers have always a wonderful selection of exclusive apparel provided to you by professional service and advice.

“As Gucci said: ‘The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten’.”
