Hillbilly energy and music
CAIRNS is in for a quirky treat on Friday 10 October, when Australia’s favourite “best-looking hillbilly band,” The Pigs, hit the stage at BAR36 for a free, one-night-only performance. Known for their mix of original songs and hilariously inventive covers, the band promises a night of music, laughs and high-energy hillbilly fun.

T-Bone Pig, a founding member, says the band’s unique charm comes straight from the family. “We’re a family, last name Pig,” he explained.
“I’m T-Bone, my brother’s Stretch and our cousins Seamus, Montz and Bert are all part of the band.
“Even our Pa, who’s back from the dead, will be joining us on the double bass for this show.”
The Pigs have been performing together for more than 20 years, bringing their bluegrass-inspired hillbilly pop to audiences across Australia and Europe.
Fans can expect a mix of originals and reimagined hits. T-Bone explained their creative process. “We hear a song on the radio and think, can this song be helped with some banjo? Montz puts it on the operating table and we see if there’s life in it. That’s how songs get the Pigs’ treatment.”
Their quirky original, ‘Macho Moisturiser’, has become a fan favourite. “It’s about a tough country guy with thick skin who applies moisturiser and it helps him get out of trouble and save his love,” T-Bone laughed.
“People have really connected with the story, which is always a surprise for us.”
The band’s live shows are legendary, with tales ranging from sold-out gigs at the Gympie Muster to being accidentally electrocuted on stage in Denmark.
“We play in bare feet, so it’s easy for us to get shocked,” T-Bone recalled.
“But we dust ourselves off and keep going. That’s the Pigs’ way.”
For Cairns locals, the BAR36 stage offers a rare treat. “Fans can expect a great, thigh-slapping good time, with our Pa back from the dead and lots of laughs,” he said.
“It’s safe for everyone, from two to 200.”
After two decades on the road, what keeps The Pigs motivated? “The fans and the incredible places we visit,” T-Bone said.
“We provide an escape and a connection, and that’s what keeps us inspired.”
The Pigs will be bringing their signature hillbilly energy to Cairns for a night of music, fun and good times, all free at BAR36 from 8 pm. Don’t miss it.
