Heat wins five of six games in first regional tourney
THE Port Douglas Heat won almost all of their games when they hosted a regional competition last weekend.

Heat teams won five of six games after years of hosting general competitions with other regional clubs.
The Heat hosted the club’s inaugural regional championships with teams coming from Mulgrave, Atherton, Innisfail, Cooktown and Mission Beach.
All teams played off in a round robin tournament style notching up two games each over the weekend.
Cooktown club president and Australian Boomers’ manager Junior Viranatuleo said it was great seeing the Far Northern youngsters get the opportunities to showcase their talent.
The Heat have nearly doubled their junior numbers in the last three seasons and finding them court time has been a struggle for the heat’s board.
Coach Paul Wrobel said they were the future of his club’s competition format.
“I think it’s great to see all these clubs get together also to compete,” he said.
There were wins by the U10s (22-11), U12s girls (30-21), U14s boys (44-26), U14s girls (32-21) and U18s boys (81-22). The U16s boys lost (58-43).
