Heat on teen basketballers
TWO Douglas Heat basketball stars have been selected for the upcoming under-18 basketball Queensland representative season.

Kobi Teasdale and Sam Jones are looking to make their mark for the region in this year’s rep season, after both players came off a super successful 2024/25 campaign.
Basketball has been a huge part of both their lives, with both athletes beginning their playing careers with the Douglas Heat as Aussie Hoopers (under-8s) with both young men having an abundance of love and passion for the game.
Both players from a young age were exploring pathways to expand their game. Kobi played his first rep season for Cairns as an 11-year-old and absolutely thrived under the representative program and now enters his seventh straight rep season.
Sam played locally a bit longer, starring for the Douglas Heat in all their regional tournaments. He then joined Redlynch in the Cairns Basketball precinct where his skill development progressed greatly.
Sam made his first representative appearance last year for the division 2 squad where he showed out and eventually worked his way into the U18’s Marlins side.
The U18 rep season kicks off next month when the Marlins will play three grading competitions in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay before state championships on the Gold Coast in January 2026.
Kobi, who is currently recovering from a back injury, will miss the first couple tournaments but will be back and firing for state championships.
Sam on the other hand has been training non-stop since his selection and is looking to dominate the upcoming tournaments.
Both athletes are looking to progress on to the Queensland North squad for the U18s national championships in April 2026.
As excited as the young men are for the upcoming season, they’re currently focused on trying to sharpen up all facets of their game to catch the eye of all scouts at state championships.
