Golf for a good cause
ABOUT $10,000 has been raised at the annual Tin Shed Golf Day for men’s health.

The event last Friday involved 60-plus competitors teeing off in teams of two for the Ambrose competition at Mossman Golf Club.
As in previous years, the whole day was devoted to Movember, raising funds and awareness for men’s health issues.
Tin Shed general manager Kyle Livingston is passionate about this topic, as he is about many other local community activities.
“It is important that we focus on areas that are sometimes hard to talk about,” he said.
“After the amazing success of Pink In The Tropics and breast cancer awareness, I thought we don’t really have that many men’s charity-based days up here, so why don’t we get Movember onto the calender as it’s already globally recognised in November.”
“We know that most of the men in our lives are generally stubborn and don’t like talking about men’s health.
“So we are just trying to open the conversation up more than anything. I don’t think today is about the weather or the golf, I think people are just out here for a really good cause.”
One way to be a big winner on the day was the chance to win $2500 by making a hole-in-one on the 13th hole. Unfortunately, none of the competitors were able to.
Overall winners were Pat and Tom Mentzel with a score of 62.25. In second place were Alexis Kearns and Josh Yarr with 62.5 and in third place were Harry and Lance Davis with 62.75.
On the par 3s, nearest-the-pin winners were: 6th hole Rhys Bawden, 8th hole Jim Dormer (men) and Janette Rogerson (women),10th hole Geoff Kerr, 13th hole Dan Tiffin and 17th hole Dan Tiffin. The longest drive was won on the 9th hole by Jay Anderson (men) and Sharee Kemp (women).
