Gazette soon to be free
THE Douglas Gazette will be free-of-charge as from the next edition on August 27.

Editor Nick Dalton said by deciding to make the publication free, it would be available to more readers across the Shire and also attract more advertising.
“We know the community has embraced ‘your’ local newspaper and we thought it was time to make it free like all our other newspapers in the Far North,” he said.
“We are also conscious that times are tough, with cost-of-living pressures and with just about everything else going up in price, we would offer the paper for nothing.
“It’s something else that people don’t have to worry about paying for.”
Publisher Carl Portella said that “in keeping in line with the rest of our publications we chose to revert to a free community newspaper so locals would have free access to their local news”.
“We are acting in the best interest of locals so that they can be more informed and have more interaction with what’s happening in their community,” he said.
“The publication will also be free across all of our platforms including the website, Facebook and LinkedIn.”
It comes at a time when the Cassowary Coast is also getting a free fortnightly paper, the Observer on August 20.
