Final edition of Gazette
THIS is the final edition of the Douglas Gazette as a standalone publication.

But all is not lost. As from 16 January 2026, it will be inserted in Cairns Local News (CLN) each week.
So, instead of receiving local Shire news each fortnight, readers will get it each week on a Friday, with stories from locals such as Gary ‘Gazza’ McIlroy and Jake Black.
Initially, it will be four pages inside CLN, with the intention of expanding.
We will continue to cover Douglas Shire Council meetings and announcements as well as the many events that occur across the Shire, the latest in tourism, business, agriculture, community, schools and sports.

Thank you to our readers and advertisers for your support since we revived the abandoned masthead on 31 July 2024.
Tropical Cyclone Jasper, the closure of the Mossman Mill and the replacement of the Daintree ferry were some of the highlights.
The entire team at Cairns Local News wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous, healthy New Year. We look forward to continuing to serve you in 2026.
