Experts needed for program
HEALTH professionals are being called upon to help with a new initiative designed to assist local women experiencing perimenopause, menopause or post-menopausal health and wellness concerns.

Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre has secured funding to offer a heavily subsidised health information program and they are currently in the process of seeking guest speakers from a variety of perspectives.
“We are hoping to have a doctor or two, a nurse, a naturopath and an herbalist to speak to our group about some of the issues facing women during this phase of their lives and some of the options available to them in managing menopause symptoms and enhancing wellness,” said community development worker and program coordinator Christine Gilewicz.
“If anyone knows a health professional who may be interested in speaking at our event, I would love to have a chat with them,” she said.
“We have the funding, the venue and a location, we just need the experts.”
Topics to be discussed will include, navigating perimenopause, menopause and beyond, understanding the stages and what to expect, menopause and mental health, hormone therapy and alternatives, nutrition for midlife women, sleep strategies during menopause, confidence after 50 and workplace wellness.
The event will be held on Saturday September 20 in the restaurant at the Niramaya Resort.
A buffet lunch will be included and the cost for attendees will be heavily subsidised at about $20 per person.
Organisers are asking for expressions of interest from local women in order to gain an idea of numbers for the event.
They are also keen to know people’s particular areas of interest or concern and would be grateful to hear from health experts who may be available to talk on relevant topics
