The vibrant array of works at the gallery in Mill Street, Mossman, reveals the range of art forms practiced by members, including acrylics, watercolours and print making.

“Mosaics with mirrors draw the viewer in to become part of the artwork,” said DAB Gallery manager Mandy Ryan.

“In ceramic works, clay becomes fabric, rocks, glossy bowls and holders for live plants,” she said.

“Natural fibres are worked into centrepiece baskets. Slumped glass dishes and plaques echo the ocean and gardens.

“The artists’ statements tell stories in poetry and prose.”

Each piece conveys a different aspect of the ‘Reflections’ theme.

The guest speaker at the exhibition opening, Helen Ramoutsaki, said “the exhibition is about artists reflecting on what they see, but also memories, thoughts and feelings, the moods of people and places and the wonder of our environment”.

DAB members have the opportunity to attend classes and workshops, but also get together to create during more informal peer group sessions.

In this community arts setting, reflection on artistic concepts can be collaborative.

“At DAB, we tend to reflect on each other’s ideas, building more understanding and inspiration through our discussions,” Ms Ryan said.

The exhibition offers visitors a space for their own reflections on the artworks.

As Dr Ramoutsaki said: “The exhibition is not complete without its visitors, so please come along to enjoy some time looking and contemplating”.

“Artworks take on another layer of meaning in the way we experience them. Our reactions and reflections are unique to each of us.”

The Reflections Exhibition runs until Saturday 18 October 2025 at 11 Mill Street, Mossman, from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 2pm.
