Dragons secure top-two spot
LIKE many other Douglas Shire sporting clubs, the Douglas United soccer club is at the pointy end of their season with finals just around the corner.

The Dragons have had an extremely dominant season, finishing with a record of 14 wins and only two losses, securing them a top-two spot for the 2025 finals series.
The Dragons finished the 2025 season riding a huge momentum wave winning their final seven games.
The Dragons saw some monstrous wins in this time frame, demolishing Leichhardt 11-0 and 10-0 and comfortably beating Marlin Coast Football Club 8-2 in this time frame.
Dragons player Ben Syrett said that the team’s best win through this stretch came against the club’s rivals, Stratford Dolphins, where they came away with a comfortable 4-1 victory.
With the Dragons securing a top-two position on the ladder the players have earned themselves a second chance come finals.
“The vibes are very good. We’ve been playing great together and were enjoying playing as a group,” Mr Syrett said.
Even though the Dragons have been on fire form-wise this season they know that they can’t get complacent for the finals.
“Finals is a whole new season,” Mr Syrett said.
The Dragons aren’t taking any different approaches leading into finals, they’re looking to continue with the approach they’ve taken all season to ensure they keep riding the momentum wave they’ve been riding all season.
After the Dragons’ heartbreaking grand final loss to end last season the playing group is using that as motivation to take that one step further this season.
“It’s never nice to lose any games, especially grand finals, so were really wanting to eliminate last year’s result with a premiership win this year.”
With the finals starting very shortly, the Dragons are taking every training and game one at a time.
