Douglas Heat comp brings 2026 season to close
THE Douglas Heats have wrapped up their final home tournament of the year, welcoming teams from Port Douglas, Atherton and Cooktown for a full day of competition, community spirit and local bragging rights.

The tournament brought together boys and girls across all age groups, with players taking to the court determined to finish the 2026 regional season on a high. With teams travelling from across Far North Queensland, the event provided a fitting finale to another year of development, competition and camaraderie.
From the youngest players gaining valuable match experience to the older age groups showcasing their skills and determination, the day highlighted the depth of talent emerging throughout the region.
With Port Douglas, Atherton and Cooktown all represented, the tournament offered plenty of opportunities for players to test themselves against familiar rivals and new opponents alike.
While local bragging rights were on the line, the event also provided a chance for athletes to put their hard work throughout the season into practice and celebrate their progress alongside teammates, coaches and supporters.
For the Douglas Heats, hosting the final home tournament of 2026 was about more than simply closing out the competition calendar. It was an opportunity to bring the regional basketball community together, recognise the commitment of players and volunteers, and finish the year on a positive note.
The tournament officially brings the 2026 regional season to a close, marking the end of another busy campaign for the participating clubs. But while the final whistle signals a break from regional competition, the work behind the scenes is already building towards what promises to be a significant year ahead.
The experience gained throughout the season, combined with the talent on display across all age groups, provides plenty of reasons for optimism as the clubs turn their attention to 2027. For the Douglas Heats, the focus now shifts from finishing the season strongly to laying the foundations for an enormous year ahead.
With another season in the books and the regional basketball community continuing to grow, the final home tournament was a fitting way to farewell 2026 – and an exciting launching pad for what comes next.
