The centre will provide 240 jobs during construction and about 180 ongoing jobs when the centre opens next year.

The new centre will be home to 4020sqm of retail space, including a full-line Woolworths Supermarket, six-bay direct to boot service and 15 additional specialty stores.

There will also be space for 269 cars, the inclusion of new cycle bays and more than 550 solar panels across the centre’s rooftop which will offset 20% of the store’s energy needs.

A ceremonial sod turning last week marked the official start of construction attended by Federal Member for Leichhardt Matt Smith MP, State Member for Barron River Bree James MP, Cairns Regional Council Mayor Amy Eden and Woolworths property development Queensland manager Chris Sheehan.

“The Trinity Beach development is an important part of our ongoing commitment to investing in regional areas across Queensland to support jobs growth and the increasing demand for more localised, neighbourhood retail close to where residents live and work,” Mr Sheehan said.

“On completion, this new Woolworths neighbourhood shopping centre out at Trinity Beach will become a high quality and convenient shopping destination – ensuring residents in the immediate catchment areas don’t need to travel too far for their shopping needs,” he said.

“We’re confident we can deliver local residents a modern convenient shopping centre and supermarket that will meet their needs well into the future. We look forward to welcoming customers into our store in 2027.”

Mr Smith said “as someone who lives in the Northern Beaches’ suburbs of Cairns, the new Woolworths Supermarket is welcomed to the area”.

“Not only will it be more convenient for families with less commute time for their grocery shop, it will create ongoing employment in the area as well as those during the construction phase,” he said.

Ms James said the $60m investment “provides convenient local retail, supports local businesses and creates hundreds of jobs”.

“This new centre will become a vibrant hub where residents can shop, connect and support our local economy,” she said.

Ms Eden said it was “a welcome investment in one of Cairns’ growing communities”.

“It will help meet the needs of local residents by bringing everyday services closer to home, while also supporting local employment and strengthening Trinity Beach as a place to live, work and play,” she said.
