Convincing wins and a close finish in FNQ cricket
LOCAL cricket delivered another entertaining round, with Norths and Barron recording convincing wins while Rovers produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the weekend, edging out Mulgrave by just one run.

Norths set the standard with a dominant performance against Mareeba, posting an imposing 7/296 before bowling their opponents out for 152.
The commanding result highlighted Norths’ strength across the board, with the side firmly in control of the contest as they secured a comprehensive victory.
Barron also enjoyed a comfortable outing, overcoming Atherton after putting together a strong total of 6/243. Atherton fought hard in reply but could only manage 9/190, leaving Barron well clear at the finish.
The result continued a positive showing from Barron, who proved too strong for their opponents on the day.
However, it was the clash between Rovers and Mulgrave that stole the spotlight, with the two sides producing a nail-biting contest that went right down to the wire.
In a low-scoring battle, Rovers posted 9/104 before Mulgrave looked to have the upper hand during their run chase.

With the match hanging in the balance, every run became crucial as Rovers fought to defend their total against a determined Mulgrave outfit.
In the end, Rovers managed to hold their nerve and secure a remarkable one-run victory, finishing the contest in a result that showcased the importance of teamwork, composure and execution under pressure.
Rovers captain Joshua Chadwick was full of praise for his side following the thrilling finish, highlighting the group’s ability to deliver when it mattered most.
“Great team victory, the lads handled the pressure incredibly well and came up big when needed,” he said.
The narrow win will provide plenty of confidence for Rovers moving forward, with the side demonstrating they can find a way to win even when the contest is on a knife’s edge.
Meanwhile, Cassowary Coast had the round two bye, giving the side an opportunity to regroup ahead of its next fixture.
With Norths and Barron making strong statements and Rovers claiming a memorable last-gasp result, the latest round offered a reminder of the competitiveness across the local cricket competition.
