Citizens awards open
NOMINATIONS of exceptional individuals for the Douglas Shire Council 2026 Australia Day Awards are now open.
The annual awards celebrate the contributions of community members across a variety of categories, including:
Citizen of the year
Young citizen of the year
Volunteer of the year
Senior citizen of the year
Senior sports award
Junior sports award
Environmental achievement award
Arts and cultural award.
The awards recognise those who have made a meaningful impact through their dedication, service and achievements within the Douglas Shire.
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon encouraged locals to take part in the nomination process and shine a light on those who helped make the region special.
“Nominating someone is a great way to celebrate the people who bring energy, kindness and creativity to our community,” she said.
Nominations close 14 November allowing time for the community to put forward deserving candidates. To submit a nomination, visit the Douglas Shire Council website and complete the online form at www.bit.ly/48nekwh
