Christmas Markets brought joy, trade and celebrations

THE Christmas Markets at Market Park, Port Douglas, last Sunday provided a festive atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for last-minute gift shopping.

This year the markets added some extra activities for kids, with fun games and entertainment designed to keep them smiling while parents browsed for unique, handcrafted gifts.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the Christmas Markets were a celebration for the whole family.

“We added a festive twist to make the markets even more exciting for children,” she said.

“There was an MC running games and activities to keep kids entertained, because when the kids are happy, everyone enjoys the experience more.”

The activities included free facepainting, balloon animals, games and prizes.

“Our stallholders turn up week after week, creating one of the most iconic attractions in the region,” Cr Scomazzon said.

“The festive season can be a quieter time for them, so this was a great chance to pick up something unique and support local makers,” she said.

The next markets are this Sunday.
