Children’s reading program turns 10
A DECADE of First 5 Forever – a program dedicated to giving children the best start through early literacy and learning – has been marked in Mossman.

Music, movement, storytelling and plenty of fun for the region’s youngest residents were held in the shire hall.
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the milestone reflected the community’s strong commitment to literacy and learning.
“Many of the children who joined our first, First 5 Forever sessions 10 years ago are now in high school,” she said.
“Council is proud to have played a part in giving them that early launch pad for learning and development.
“Our library team has shown an ongoing commitment to fostering literacy and learning in the Douglas Shire. According to the 2021 Census, more than 500 children aged 0-4 live in our region.
“Programs like this continue to play a vital role in helping families build strong foundations for lifelong learning, highlighting the importance of play and building connections in a safe, supportive environment.”
The event featured live children’s entertainment, active play, crafts, story time and birthday cake.
