Slated for April next year, the cult classic musical will bring its signature blend of camp, chaos and rock ‘n’ roll to the Port Douglas stage and DTAG is now calling for cast applications.

Auditions for lead roles will be held on Tuesday 21 October, with ensemble auditions following on Tuesday 18 November. Applications are open via the Clink Theatre website and DTAG is encouraging performers of all backgrounds to apply.

Directed by Michael Kerr, the production promises a bold re-imagining of Richard O’Brien’s iconic musical, which first shocked and thrilled audiences more than 50 years ago.

With its unforgettable characters, Dr Frank-N-Furter, Brad and Janet, Riff Raff, Magenta, Columbia and Rocky, the show explores themes of identity, transformation and liberation, all set to a high-voltage score that includes ‘Time Warp’, ‘Sweet Transvestite’ and ‘Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me’.

“This is a show that invites you to throw away the rule book,” Mr Kerr said.

“Rocky Horror is about embracing the strange, the beautiful and the unapologetically bold. It’s a celebration of difference and a challenge to conformity and it’s also a hell of a lot of fun,” he said.

Mr Kerr, known for his visionary work in community theatre and creative production, sees Rocky Horror as a perfect fit for the region’s vibrant arts scene.

“We’re building a production that honours the spirit of the original, while giving it a fresh, local heartbeat,” he said.

“Being accompanied by a live band, we want performers who are ready to take risks, who can bring both theatricality and authenticity to the stage.”

The show will feature a full cast of leads and ensemble performers, including a chorus of Phantoms who bring the world of Rocky Horror to life. DTAG is also assembling a creative team to deliver a visually striking and musically dynamic experience, with costumes, choreography and lighting designed to immerse audiences in the show’s eccentric universe.

“If you are interested in assisting backstage or within another role, we also ask you to register on the volunteer page,” Mr Kerr said.

“This is more than a musical it’s a movement,” he said.

“We’re inviting the community to be part of something unforgettable.”
