Lowes Petroleum’s North Queensland spokeswoman Kylie Steer said the regional fuel provider and transporter had fielded calls from many locals concerned the facility had closed permanently when it temporarily closed on July 21.

She said the site had been upgraded to the newest technology with the replacement of old bowsers, pipes and electrical works.

“This is peak tourism time for the Mossman region,” Ms Steer said.

“With over 650 people using this facility every week, we were mindful of getting things back up and running as quickly as possible.

“Our figures show our customers are a mix of locals and tourists seeking 24-hour fuel.

“Petrol is vital for tourism. Research shows tourists will travel further and extend their range knowing they have access to 24- hour fuel.

“Fuel availability contributes to the accessibility, convenience and overall infrastructure that supports the needs of both residents and tourists.

“Whilst everything was still in excellent condition, we committed to an upgrade to improve fuel delivery.

“The entire electrical system has been overhauled and we now have one bowser delivering three different types of BP fuel instead of the previous three.

“Many trucks also use this service, so we have included a high mast to make their refuelling so much easier.

“Locals and tourists can rest assured we are in the business of building a thriving regional Australia, so we have committed to improving our facilities for the town.”
